An informed community begins with access to information and opportunities to be heard. That is why I am sharing information about Montgomery County Bill 37-26 and encouraging residents to learn more, ask questions, and participate in the public process.

Proposed changes to public-facility rules may have implications for residents, families, people with disabilities, and those who rely on public and emergency services. Understanding the proposal can help community members identify concerns and share their perspectives with county leaders.

Through the Montgomery Emergency Housing Justice (MEHJ) framework, our goal is to encourage an informed community conversation and help people participate in decisions that may affect their lives.

Who Should Get Involved?

We encourage anyone with an interest in public facilities and community services to review the bill, including:

  • Parents, families, and caregivers

  • Residents and team leaders

  • Disability advocates

  • Housing and shelter providers

  • Community organizations and service providers

Each person brings a different perspective. Your experiences can help identify questions and concerns that deserve attention during the public process.

Make Your Voice Heard

A community letter template is available to help individuals and organizations communicate their concerns. You are welcome to adapt it by adding, removing, or rewriting sections to reflect your personal experiences, your family’s needs, or your organization’s priorities.

Before signing, submitting, publishing, or sharing the letter, verify legislative language, dates, claims, and contact information. Review the bill and available official materials so your comments accurately reflect the proposal.

While we welcome partnerships with organizations and community leaders, our immediate purpose is to reach people who may be directly or indirectly affected and encourage their participation.

Review the Community Petition

If you would like to learn more about my community effort, please review the Change.org petition requesting amendments to Bill 37-26 to protect vulnerable residents in Montgomery County.

Read the petition on Change.org

Take time to understand the petition before deciding whether to sign. If it reflects your concerns, consider sharing it with others who may want to participate.

Help Build an Informed Community Conversation

Community participation starts with reading, asking questions, and sharing reliable information. Whether you review the bill, adapt the letter, or contribute your perspective, your involvement can help bring residents’ experiences into the conversation.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more and share this information with those who may benefit from it.
